Brian Brooks

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

Brian Brooks joined Meridian Capital Group as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in April 2024.  Brian is a globally recognized leader in financial services, having served as acting U.S. Comptroller of the Currency and as a board member of the FDIC Board of Directors and a voting member of the Financial Stability Oversight Council.  Brian’s experience in real estate finance is extensive.

He spent four years as Fannie Mae’s Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary during a period when Fannie Mae completed historic multifamily transactions such as the refinancing of Stuyvesant Town/Peter Cooper Village and the creation of Invitation Homes.  He later served on Fannie Mae’s board of directors.  Brian was also Vice Chairman of OneWest Bank, where he oversaw the bank’s successful completion of OCC and Federal Reserve consent orders relating to mortgage servicing and led the sale of $78 billion in mortgage servicing rights.  Brian has had board and advisory roles with such firms as Interfirst Mortgage, Avant, Cable, LoanSnap, and Valor Capital Group.

Brian began his career as an attorney with O’Melveny & Myers, eventually heading the firm’s Washington, D.C. office and leading the firm’s global financial services practice group.  His thoughts on financial regulation and policy are seen regularly on CNBC, CNN, and Fox Business, and his writing frequently appears in the Wall Street Journal.  He received his A.B. cum laude from Harvard University and his J.D. with honors from the University of Chicago.
